All Known Problems with Read and Speak Greek/CDROM

• 1. WPSUNI Message

If your computer is new and the default printer is set to MS FAX, you will get an error message referencing WPSUNI. Set your default printer to a real live printer and run the program and the message will go away. There is no need to reinstall.
 
• 2. Database Engine Error: Insufficient disk space

This message may be posted with "The Exercises for the Vocabulary" (Item 5 on Main Menu) after you select a page. These exercises need a total of about 130MB of available space of which 110MB is temporarily used and then it is released. If this condition develops and you have less than 130MB available on your hard disk, you must make available more space on the hard disk. This is the most space demanding program section. The rest of the sections require less space and should have no problem if you pass the space requirements for the "The Exercises of the Vocabulary".
 
• 3. You cannot see or print Greek characters

This condition will occur because you have not installed the Greek font named AnotekGreek and residing in the CDROM. In order for the program to work correctly, you need to install two things (a) the program and (b) the Greek font. Please follow the instructions that came with the software regarding the font installation. If you do not have the instructions, please insert the CDROM in the CDROM drive and follow the standard and routine WINDOWS procedure for installing a new font. When asked to supply the location of the new font, please supply the Install folder of the CDROM drive where you have inserted the Read and Speak Greek CDROM.

You may be unable to install the fonts in a few cases where your original computer installation was not well done or font installation program has become inoperative. In these cases you will be unable to install any font because you cannot see the Install New Font option. You can install the fonts in the alternative way noted below.  In addition, you may want to go to the Microsoft Internet site, seach the Knowledge base on "Font installation" and see how to revive the font installation program of WINDOWS.

(a) Go to the CDROM and and use WINDOWS EXPLORER to copy to the WINDOWS clipboard (press the CTRL button and single click on each file to select it until all four files are selected, then click on EDIT/COPY to copy the selected files to the WINDOWS clipboard) the four true type font (extension ttf) files (ANOTGB__.TTF, ANOTGBI_.TTF, ANOTGI__.TTF, ANOTGRG_.TTF) that are in the INSTALL folder of the CDROM.
(b) Use the left pane window to navigate to the folder C:\WINDOWS\FONTS, double click it to open it and select it, then paste the files (EDIT/PASTE) into it.
 

• 4. You get Database Engine Error (Invalid Field Type)

This condition may occur from interference with other products that use an earlier version of the Borland Database Engine (Paradox, WordPerfect). To remove any interference from this earlier version, you must be sure of two things: (a) the WIN.INI file in the WINDOWS folder has the proper statements, (b) the BDE Configuration Utility has the proper statements.

4a. WIN.INI file (in WINDOWS folder)
Use the Notepad (Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Notepad, File, Open / Files of Type make it All Files (*.*) / Look in: navigate to show Windows folder / Scroll to the right until you see WIIN.INI and click it to open it).
4a1. Find a heading that has [IDAPI]. The IDAPI statements should be

Note: If you install IDAPI in a drive other than C, use the corresponding statement in place of C:\IDAPI

4b. BDE (Borland Database Engine) Click on Read and Speak Greek and the on BDE Configuration Utility. The parameters should be as listed below. Make changes if needed, and then click on File/Save the Configuration and then File/Exit.

• 5. WINDOWS NT or WINDOWS 2000 Systems

You may need to modify the LOCALSHARE parameter in the BDE Configuration Utility to True. Click BDE Configuration Utility, then Click the System tab, then Edit LOCALSHARE to True.  Save the new configuration and Exit.
